STRUNG OUT (usa) & NO USE FOR A NAME (usa)

Supported by SPECIAL GUESTS

Two of the greats of Californian punk rock, Strung Out and No Use for a Name, will be taking in as many cities as they can squeeze into one month this July when they embark on the Strangers in the Outback tour that hits Coolangatta Hotel on Friday 18th July.

No Use for a Name have no idea what to expect, but Strung Out are no strangers to our far flung corners, having played over 50 shows here with Frenzal Rhomb back in 2001. Last time they took a bunker mentality, cramming 10 people into a 4 sleeper campervan and spending much of the bumpy ride peering fearfully out of the windows in search of yowies and Ivan Milat. Stronger for the experience, Strung Out will lead No Use for a Name into the great unknown for another round of regional (and metropolitan) touring madness

Jon English and Peter Cupples team up once again to bring you “Uncorked”

Uncorked is a project born out of an idea Jon English and Peter Cupples had whilst touring New Zealand with the 'Pirates of Penzance'. “We started doing gigs together to break the boredom, (as much as we loved it, eight shows a week of anything will get to you sooner or later)”. The show was only performed for the cast and crew, and instantly a wonderful rapport was
evident, not only between Jon and myself, but also all those present.

As Jon said “we've been playing in different bands together for a long time”. The beauty of the combination is that both artists have totally different styles and sounds, yet together, somehow it creates a very interesting sound. Jon's influence on my songs, and mine on his is what makes the whole thing so unique.

This acoustic show is very raw and natural. The main focus is to have fun, we don't take ourselves or each other too seriously. We don't have anything to prove to anyone, 'we've been there done that'. This is aboutentertainment.

Jon English is one of few Australian performers who has successfully combined a career in music, television and stage.
Talented, versatile, intelligent, driven by his love for his work and music, Jon is one of Australia's most successful recording and performing artists, a prolific songwriter, experienced screen composer and a popular actor with wide community recognition and critical acclaim.

Peter Cupples .formed the Masons Cure which later grew into Stylus. With great hits such as “Summer Breeze”, “Living in a world of make believe”.  Stylus were destined to move on to greater things. With the release of their next album (For the Love of music) the band found interest in America from Motown records. It was a great honour and thrill for the band to be the first all white band with Motown, and for Peter being the lead singer and songwriter it was pretty special.

As Stylus slowly broke up Peter started working on some new musical projects, resulting in the forming of The Peter Cupples Band through this the band made "Half the Effort Twice the Effect. Peter Cupples then decided to
release Changes.

Changes received strong airplay nationally and was very well received by both the media and the public. Since the release of changes, Peter has continued to have great success with the release of Scared Heart, Home Grown, The Best of The Best and Some of my favourite things. With each album further showcasing the diversity of Peter’s amazing musical ability.

Two of Australia's most revered entertainers, one bill, one night!

THE MATCHES (usa)

Supported by Very Special Guests

It is official – THE MATCHES are heading back to our shores for a huge seven-show national tour this September, including a spot as the only international act at the inaugural
Coaster Festival on the Central Coast alongside Aussie legends The Living End, Kisschasy, Something With Numbers & Cog to name a few.
Last in Australia as part of the renowned Soundwave Festival earlier this year, US rockers THE MATCHES this time bring with them a new offering; ‘A Band In Hope’ is the
band’s latest release that has already spawned hit singles ‘Point Me Toward The Morning’ and ‘Wake The Sun’.

Ticket Price $29.00 + bf (on sale at venue and Oztix outlets) | Ticket price will be $33 at the door | 18+ | Valid Photo ID Required | Expired ID not accepted | Dress Regs Apply

THE MATCHES have no shortage of accolades under their belt. The video for ‘Salty Eyes’, the opening track from the band’s sophomore album ‘Decomposer’ (2006) was named the number-one video of the week by the editors of rollingstone.com, described
on spin.com as "…one of the best videos we've seen all year," and was named the runner-up Alternative Press reader's choice video of 2007!

Since 2002, THE MATCHES have been playing over 200 shows per year, and their live performances – raucous, sweat-drenched, and aerobic - should be seen, not read about (the THE MATCHES are of the opinion that unfiltered experience trumps flattering minibios
any day of the week). Initially, the band honed their skills and gained notoriety through guerilla concert-making: the band played impromptu shows in public
thoroughfares, venue queues, and school corridors, inciting a scene before fleeing.

More Details

Noiseworks shot to mainstream fame in 1986 with their debut single “No Lies”, which instantly became an ARIA top 20 hit.  Quickly following were chart anthems “Take me back”, “Love Somebody”, “Welcome to the world”, and “Burning Feeling”, all spawned from their debut album “Noiseworks”, which charted for over a year and basked in multiple platinum sales.

The band slogged it out on the road throughout Australia, playing to packed pubs everywhere they could, as well as supporting acts such as Bon Jovi, Paul Young and Jimmy Barnes.  Following the success of “Noiseworks”, the album “Touch” was released to an anxious public in November 1988.  The album entered straight into the top 10 on the ARIA charts, and remained in the charts for well into the following year.  The album also saw the band test international waters with a European tour.
Back in Australia, the relentless touring continued, as did the pressure to follow up two phenomenal albums.  “Love vs Money” was the product of their creativeness.  It was a diverse album, and instantly entered the charts at No.1.  Pre-sales alone saw the album become a platinum seller – with hits like “Freedom”,  “Miles and Miles”, “Hot Chilli Woman”, and “Take you higher”.

BONDI CIGARS *Classic Blues*

Supported by act to be advised

When the Bondi Cigars were first gigging around Sydney, late 1989, they moved in a blues/R&B circuit which, while robust enough since the 60s, had then been sparked into new life by the ‘blues revival' of the mid-80's, spearheaded by Robert Cray, Joe Louis Walker, Stevie Ray Vaughan and similar crusaders. And while many of the Sydney bands from that era have vanished, become historical footnotes or undergone major changes, the Cigars - true survivors - have battled on, without ever compromising their distinctive no nonsense style, to become a leading force in Australian R&B.

More Details

That original Cigars line-up brought together four like-minded experienced players, all veterans of Sydney inner-west blues venues, and from the word go, as the 1990 tracks demonstrate, the Cigars have been the very model of the ‘no passengers' band, a well-oiled machine plus soul: no room for slackers here. Always one of the country's hardest working outfits (on the road more than off), the Cigars have kept their music tight, hard-driving and down-to-earth: the Australian bar band par excellence.
