THOUSANDS of people converge on Tweed Heads-Coolangatta for the annual Wintersun Festival - a celebration of rock 'n' roll music, all things Elvis, classic cars and great dancing.

The 2009 festival is scheduled for Friday May 30 to Monday June 8 (Queens Bday Long Weekend), and you can expect almost two weeks of fun and laughter. The festival takes advantage of the fabulous Gold Coast weather at this time of the year. When the rest of Australia is shivering, the streets of Coolangatta are shaking, rattling and rolling.

It is billed as Australia's leading rock 'n' roll nostalgia retro event and highlights include dozens of Elvis impersonators, more than 1300 hot rods, custom and classic cars, more than 100 bands and performers, dancing, movies, and competitions for everyone.

Coolangatta Hotel offers some of the best free live entertainment seen at Wintersun in the Beergarden.

Situated on one of the festivals busiest street corners, there is no better place to watch the carnival atmosphere while enjoying  some of the regions best cover bands playing all your favourite songs while you get your hands around an icy cold beer, put a bet on at the TAB or even just watch the waves from the outdoor beergarden.
